Title: SECURITY OFFICER - PER DIEM - EVENING
Location: JFK University Medical Center, Edison, New Jersey
Shift: Evening

OverviewThe Security Officer will assume responsibility for the safety and well‑being of patients, team members, physicians, visitors, students and Medical Center property. Responsibilities include continuous surveillance, reporting and documenting incidents, and providing quality guest services while remaining sensitive to the needs of all persons visiting the Medical Center.
Responsibilities- Make continuous patrols throughout the Medical Center to observe and take corrective action regarding violations and detrimental conditions related to security and safety.
- Respond to calls and codes for security assistance by any person within the Medical Center, taking proper action including responding quickly and effectively to emergent and non‑emergent situations.
- Provide continuous coverage of the Medical Center, controlling access and assisting patients and visitors as necessary while professionally challenging unauthorized persons.
- Maintain and control access to all facilities owned or operated, leased or owned by Hackensack Meridian Health.
- Expedite and ensure safe flow of traffic through the Medical Center parking lots while enforcing parking regulations.
- Conduct preliminary and/or detailed investigations of all unusual occurrences, including interviewing witnesses and collecting accurate information.
- Respond to fire drills, perform fire watches, and facilitate fire department inspections scheduled by the regional safety function.
- Provide escorts to team members and visitor vehicles as requested.
- Report for duty in clean, complete uniform, including photo identification badge and security officer breast badge.
- Inspect outer buildings, grounds, and parking lots, working with facilities for detection of fire and life‑safety hazards.
- Inspect packages leaving the Medical Center as necessary and according to policy.
- Prepare and submit computerized security incident reports before the end of shift.
- Submit a daily activity log at completion of tour of duty.
- Maintain all departmental security equipment in good operating condition and report damage immediately to the Security Leader.
- Keep Security Leaders informed of all matters pertinent to safety and security conditions.
- Adhere to all Medical Center Code of Conduct regulations and departmental procedures and policies.
- Complete all in‑service training, lectures, and programs as assigned.
- Attend all mandatory meetings (departmental or special).
- Work in all areas of the Medical Center, including parking lots, grounds, and outer buildings as requested, subject to all weather conditions.
- Perform duties assigned by Security leadership and execute the physical security component of the emergency management plan when an emergency occurs.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms).
- 2 years of college credits.
- Previous experience as Security Officer or Law Enforcement.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Full‑scale State, County, Federal, and License Check every other year.
Minimum rate of $20.32 hourly. The posted rate of pay is a good‑faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting and is not a guarantee of a specific offer.
