Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher will maximize the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living by implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; and providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Essential Functions- Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Participate in developing and implementing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and behavior management plans.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, administrators, and staff to determine student needs and manage resources.
- Liaise between home and school, providing counseling and encouraging parental involvement.
- Stay current with professional development, research, and networking.
- Maintain accurate record-keeping for student progress and compliance with district procedures and applicable laws.
- Assist in orientation and in-service training for new teachers in guidance.
- Source and requisition educational materials and maintain inventory records.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
EquipmentStandard office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine, and telephone.
Travel RequirementsTravel to district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities- Knowledge of special education principles, theories, and methods for maximizing student learning.

Certification/LicenseOklahoma State Certification as a Special Education Teacher;
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide transportation.
Oklahoma State Certification as a Special Education Teacher and Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
