Part-Time Sewing Instruction Edmond, OK $14–$16/hr
About Bloomfield Arts & Crafts Studio
At Bloomfield, creativity meets confidence! We’re an arts and crafts studio where kids, teens, and adults learn hands‑on skills that inspire imagination and build lifelong confidence. From painting to sewing, we provide a warm, engaging space for learning through making.
We’re looking for a bubbly, friendly Sewing Instructor who genuinely loves working with kids and brings strong energy to class. Sewing experience helps, but personality comes first — we can train the right candidate on our specific projects and curriculum, but we can’t train warmth, patience, and a love for working with kids. Success in this role looks like students leaving class more confident with a needle and machine than when they walked in — and excited to come back for more.
Responsibilities- Teach sewing classes for kids and adults using Bloomfield’s lesson plans and your own sewing expertise
- Instruct students on hand sewing, machine sewing, and garment construction using commercial patterns
- Guide students from foundations (threading, basic stitches) to advanced skills (alterations, reading and making patterns)
- Foster a positive, encouraging, and fun classroom environment
- Communicate with parents about student progress and class updates
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sewing space
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth class operations
- Contribute to improving sewing projects and curriculum as needed
- Help prepare students for the studio’s Triannual Showcase, building their skills throughout the session toward their showcase piece
- A genuine love for working with kids and a warm, bubbly, friendly personality
- Some experience with hand sewing and/or machine sewing
- Ability to connect with students of different ages and skill levels
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, organization, and a collaborative mindset
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, creative studio environment
- Previous teaching or instructional experience is a plus, but not required
- Weekday afternoons and evenings
- Saturdays: full‑day availability (morning through evening)
- Average of 10–20 hours per week
Our work is grounded in five core values that shape our culture and guide our team every day:
Collaborative Spirit — We work together as a team, showing up for each other and for our students so nobody’s carrying the studio alone.
Safety — We prioritize a clean, secure, and healthy environment where every student feels safe to try, mess up, and try again.
Respect — We treat students, parents, and staff with respect and professionalism, in every interaction, every time.
Reliability — We show up when we say we will. Dependability and consistency are how our families come to trust us.
Creativity — We think within and outside the box, and we inspire each other to do the same — because creativity is contagious.
Hiring ProcessWe believe in a thoughtful hiring process that’s fair to both you and our studio. Here’s what to expect:
- Application — Submit your resume and a short cover letter.
- Initial Conversation — Selected candidates will be invited to chat about their experience and fit with our studio’s values.
- Skill Check-In — A brief, informal demonstration or portfolio review.
- References — We’ll reach out to references to learn more about your work and how you show up on a team.
- Offer — A job offer is extended to the successful candidate.
We value your time throughout the process and aim to communicate promptly at every step.
