Position SummaryVetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals – The hospital veterinarian is the most immersive role in the hospital. The veterinarian provides quality patient care, leads the team, and has the potential to grow into a Hospital Medical Leader role.
Key Responsibilities- Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care.
- Utilize a problem-based approach: develop a complete problem list, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plan, and appropriate treatments.
- Document all patient observations, findings, treatments, medications, client interactions, and diagnoses in the medical record concisely.
- Perform routine and complex surgical procedures (spays, neuters, abdominal exploratory, mass removals).
- Perform routine and complex dental procedures (full dental exam, radiograph evaluation, extractions, oral surgery).
- Develop treatment plans for day hospitalization patients and transition to overnight care as needed.
- Participate in rounds as incoming or exiting doctor at shift start and end.
- Disseminate knowledge throughout staff to improve level of care and communication.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
The veterinarian reports to the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director. The veterinarian acts as a de facto leader in the hospital and works collegially with other veterinarians.
Qualifications- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited school.
- Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state of the hospital.
- Active DEA license.
- Active Controlled Substance license in the state.
- USDA Category I accreditation or completion within two months of hire.
- Comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries (spays, neuters, mass removals, dentals).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassionate and professional attitude during stressful situations.
- Telephone and computer skills.
- Team player willing to learn new techniques, offer ideas, and accept change.
Job duties are conducted in the Vetco Total Care hospital. Positions require bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 lbs, and standing for long periods. Time is spent in direct contact with clients and pets.
ContactsCommunicate regularly with clients, veterinary specialists, and product/service companies.
