The Line Crew Supervisor will lead a crew in the construction, maintenance, and repair of OMPA-owned and member city electric facilities. This role reports to the Line Crew Superintendent and member city personnel to plan, schedule, and complete projects safely and efficiently. Work involves climbing poles, operating bucket and digger derrick trucks, using specialty tools, and working around high voltages. The Supervisor is responsible for enforcing safety standards, ensuring compliance with construction codes, and fostering a strong safety-first culture among crew members.
- Supervise and lead a line crew, ensuring compliance with all safety rules and construction standards.
- Assist member cities with operating, maintaining, and constructing distribution system facilities.
- Perform work on energized and non-energized primary and secondary distribution circuits.
- Climb poles or operate bucket trucks to construct, maintain, and repair lines and equipment.
- Schedule work and assist with job planning for member city projects.
- Install, maintain, and repair line hardware, transformers, fuse cutouts, capacitors, meters, and services.
- Conduct substation switching, inspections, and maintenance for OMPA and member city facilities.
- Perform voltage/amperage testing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex power issues.
- Load, unload, and operate line trucks; install group-operated switches, reclosers, and underground cable.
- Lead apprentice training and support crew development.
- Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe working condition.
- Ensure all work conforms to OMPA standards, codes, and specifications.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
- Strong leadership, planning, and crew coordination skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret construction standards, safety manuals, and technical instructions.
- Knowledge of OSHA, NESC, and utility safety practices.
- Skilled in problem solving, decision-making, and mentoring apprentices.
- Effective communication with employees, contractors, and member city representatives.
- Ability to perform heavy physical work in all weather conditions.
- Regularly required to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift heavy objects.
- Must occasionally lift/move 100+ lbs and frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
- This is a safety-sensitive position, subject to pre-employment, random, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol screening
Required qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- 18 years or older
Preferred qualifications:
- At least high school diploma or equivalent or higher
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Transportation license/certification:
Class B CDL - Transportation license/certification:
Class A CDL - Valid driver's license
- Background check
- Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) Review
- Drug screening
- Speaks English
- Management skills: supervising employees
- Able to work in an environment with fluctuating temperatures
- Able to work in an environment with high temperatures
- Able to work in an environment with low temperatures
- Able to work in an environment with heights over 6 feet
- Comfortable handling customer complaints
- Reads Spanish
- Able to stand for duration of shift
- Able to comfortably lift 50 lbs
- Available to work: on call
- Willing to travel in state
- 5-7 years of total work experience
