Position Description
Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director, the Group Exercise Coordinator will participate in the operation and development of the Group Exercise Program in the Edmond District (Mitch Park & Rankin). In addition, the Coordinator will assist in recruitment and supervise staff and volunteers related to such programs.

Position Description
Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director, the Group Exercise Coordinator will participate in the operation and development of the Group Exercise Program in the Edmond District (Mitch Park & Rankin). In addition, the Coordinator will assist in recruitment and supervise staff and volunteers related to such programs.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually.
- Must be physically fit in order to demonstrate all levels of aerobic exercises.
- Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
- Physically strong in order to lift excessive weight (minimum of 50 lbs).
- Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR effectively.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to handle complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing such comments.
- Ability to lead and motivate others.
- Blood Borne Pathogen and Child Abuse Prevention training within 60 days and renewed yearly.
- Good communication skills
- Teach and substitute teach classes as needed.
- Maintain accurate incident/accident reports.
- Monitor certifications for group exercise staff, making sure everyone is certified
- Create ways to expand the group exercise programs.
- Work with volunteers for the Health and Wellness program.
- Assist with fitness seminars, clinics and special events when possible.
- Help enforce YMCA policies and practices
- Maintain a good rapport with fitness program participants to respond to their needs and to represent the YMCA.
- Attend staff meetings as requested by the program director.
- Hold quarterly scheduled staff meetings with all group exercise staff providing continuing education opportunities to them within and outside the YMCA.
- Follow all Health & Wellness Guidelines of the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City.
- Orient new staff to association and branch procedures.
- Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.
This position has a profound effect on membership revenue and retention. Qualified, certified and educated fitness staffs that reflect the YMCA mission. Equipment and facilities are clean, well maintained and safe. Group exercise rules are enforced and re-evaluated annually.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be certified by the Red in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- 12 months or 75 hours of practical experience of group exercise class experience/personal training (if applicable)
- Must be able to lift in excess of ten pounds.
