Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: RESIDENTIAL PRODUCTION EXTERIOR CARPENTER / ASSISTANT PROJECT LEAD

IN DEMAND Recruitment is currently seeking a RESIDENTIAL PRODUCTION EXTERIOR CARPENTER & ASSISTANT PROJECT LEAD for our Edmonton-based, vertically integrated builder client.

About the Company

Our client has been shaping Edmonton’s infill rental market since . They design, build, and manage their own rental homes from framing through completion, supported by an in-house carpentry team and hands-on property management. Craftsmanship, accountability, and career progression are core to their culture.

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled construction professional with a strong exterior background who thrives in a high-volume production environment and is ready to step into a leadership track.

Similar to how a primary finishing carpenter grows into project leadership, this role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in:

  • Lot grading
  • Deck construction
  • Fence installation
  • Exterior carpentry
  • Landscaping coordination
  • Laying sod
  • Final exterior site completion
  • There is significant overlap with traditional carpentry — we are still looking for a construction professional — but with deeper experience in exterior scope and site execution rather than interior finishing packages.

    This role will be approximately:

    50% hands-on exterior construction execution
50% crew leadership and project coordination support

    Key Responsibilities

    Exterior Construction (50%)

  • Lead and participate in lot grading coordination and final site prep
  • Construct and oversee decks, fences, and exterior carpentry components
  • Coordinate sod installation, exterior finishes, and site cleanup
  • Ensure exterior scope meets municipal requirements and production timelines
  • Maintain high production standards while ensuring quality and safety compliance
  • Read and interpret site plans, grading plans, and construction drawings
  • Crew Leadership & Project Support (50%)

  • Assign and oversee daily tasks for 2–4 team members
  • Coordinate materials, deliveries, and exterior supply inventory
  • Conduct quality inspections and ensure deficiencies are addressed
  • Track daily progress and report to the Project Manager
  • Support scheduling of trades related to exterior completion
  • Maintain accurate site logs and assist with production forecasting
  • Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Qualifications & Skills

    Experience:
5+ years of residential construction experience with a strong emphasis on exterior scope (grading, decks, fences, landscaping coordination, final lot completion).

    Leadership Potential:
Experience directing helpers or junior trades. Demonstrated ability to take ownership of a site area and drive it to completion.

    Technical Aptitude:
Ability to read site plans, grading plans, and construction drawings. Strong understanding of exterior sequencing and municipal inspection requirements.

    Mindset & Work Style:
Production-driven and quality-focused. Organized, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, vertically integrated environment.

    Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Own basic carpentry/exterior toolset
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet production deadlines
  • What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation package (hourly or salary based on experience)
  • Clear pathway toward full supervisory or project management roles
  • Group benefits, tool and vehicle allowances
  • Long-term opportunity with a growing Edmonton builder
  • Supportive team culture focused on advancement
