Safety Coordinator – Heavy Civil Construction
Location:Winnipeg, MB (travel to multiple project sites required)
Employment Type:Full-Time, Permanent
About the Role We are currently seeking an experienced Safety Coordinator to support heavy civil construction projects, including underground infrastructure and roadworks.
This role will partner closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to ensure all work ispleted safely, efficiently, and inpliance with applicable legislation and best practices.
Key Responsibilities Implement, monitor, and enforce health & safety programs across multiple active job sitesConduct site inspections, hazard assessments, andpliance auditsEnsure adherence to occupational health & safety regulations and internal policiesLead site orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety trainingMonitor high-risk activities such as:
Trenching and excavation
Confined space work Hoisting and rigging
Traffic control
Heavy equipment operationsInvestigate incidents, near-misses, and safety concerns; develop corrective action plansSupport WCB processes, including incident reporting and return-to-work coordinationMaintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and recordsCoordinate emergency response planning and drillsProvide guidance and support to field teams on safe work practicesMaintain and update safety management systems/softwarePromote a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement mindsetAssist in developing project-specific safety documentationQualifications & Experience
Diploma or certification in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field3–5+ years of safety experience within heavy civil constructionStrong knowledge of excavation safety, trenching regulations, and underground utility workExperience working directly with field crews in construction environmentsValid First Aid/CPR certificationProfessional designations such as NCSO, CRSP, CRST, or COR are considered assetsValid driver’s license and ability to travel between sitesSkills &petencies
