Road Building & Reclamation

Lydell Group Inc. is seeking an experienced, safety-minded Dozer / Excavator Operator with proven road-building and reclamation skills to join our field operations team.

This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for a capable operator who can confidently operate both dozers and excavators, read changing ground conditions, establish grade, manage drainage, efficiently move material and complete high-quality reclamation and finish work.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate dozers and excavators on road-building, earthworks and reclamation projects.
• Construct, maintain and reclaim forestry, oilfield and industrial access roads.
• Complete cut-and-fill work, grading, crowning, ditching and slope shaping.
• Build approaches, turnarounds, equipment access points, leases and working areas.
• Excavate and maintain ditches, drainage channels, culvert locations and water-management features.
• Complete trenching, back filling, material placement and site preparation as required.
• Establish and maintain proper road grade, drainage and compaction.
• Strip, separate, stockpile and replace topsoil and subsoil materials.
• Restore disturbed areas to approved contours and natural drainage patterns.
• Complete back sloping, contouring, decompaction, erosion-control preparation and final finishing.
• Prepare reclaimed areas for seeding, revegetation and environmental restoration.
• Safely operate on slopes, uneven terrain, soft ground and changing site conditions.
• Work effectively around graders, haul trucks, loaders and other heavy equipment.
• Follow project drawings, grade stakes, environmental requirements and supervisor direction.
• Complete daily equipment inspections and report defects or maintenance concerns.
• Maintain equipment in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.
• Participate in hazard assessments, toolbox meetings and daily work planning.
• Follow all Lydell Group safety procedures, environmental requirements and operating standards.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Proven experience operating both dozers and excavators
  .
• Demonstrated experience in road building, earthworks and land reclamation.
• Strong knowledge of grade control, drainage, ditching, contouring and material management.
• Experience stripping, separating, stockpiling and replacing topsoil and subsoil.
• Ability to complete both high-production work and detailed finish work.
• Experience with culvert installation, trenching, back filling and drainage work is considered an asset.
• Ability to read terrain, grade stakes, project plans and changing ground conditions.
• Good judgment when working near slopes, rights-of-way, soft ground and active equipment.
• Ability to safely work around underground and overhead hazards.
• Strong communication and radio-use skills.
• Ability to work safely and productively with limited supervision.
• Valid driver7s licence and reliable transportation.
• Current industry safety certifications are considered an asset.
• GPS or machine-control experience is considered an asset.
• Forestry, pipeline, oilfield or environmental reclamation experience is preferred.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

You should be dependable, experienced and capable of switching between dozer and excavator work as project requirements change. You must be able to make sound operating decisions based on terrain, soil, weather and ground conditions.
