About CBC News Podcasts & Audio
We work with CBC News teams across the country to support local podcasts, network audio and video teams and to create original news podcasts for Canadian audiences. Collaboration across all CBC Newsrooms, the CBC News Audience Growth Department and the CBC Podcast Audience Growth Hub is essential in producing audience‑first content and building digital audio skills.
About the Role
In this role, you will contribute to the evolution and production of West of Centre and its content on all platforms. Working with the Executive Producer and Senior Producer, you will partner with CBC Alberta to ensure the needs of Alberta and national CBC audiences are met through this programming. You will understand the unique character of the show, apply creativity in programming, grow audiences, and uphold CBC News journalistic standards.
You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
Responsibilities
Pitching and producing items for a weekly Alberta‑based news and politics show across multiple platforms, including podcasting and digital audio.
Contributing and executing video and social content to grow the show’s audience.
Creating uniquely Canadian news content that stands out in a crowded podcast and broadcast environment.
Executing best practices for podcast packaging and promotion.
Writing and structuring interviews and panel scripts as needed.
Presenting content on‑mic as required.
Editing, mixing and publishing interviews and weekly audio episodes.
Creating companion content on text‑based, video and social platforms, as assigned by the Senior Producer.
Using data‑informed best practices to produce content for a national audience.
Upholding CBC News Podcasts & Audio’s strategy for creating multiplatform content that centers Canadian audiences, perspectives, and CBC journalism.
About You
You have a track record of producing high quality audio storytelling and are passionate about the podcasting industry.
You have at least 3 years of experience working on audio programs (news or current affairs, long form, serialized, talk or panel based).
You are knowledgeable about Alberta news, current affairs and politics, and how it fits within the national conversation.
You have experience working on tight deadlines in collaboration with news teams.
You are a news enthusiast, adept at responding to developing news to best serve the show and its audience.
You are familiar with CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices, or have experience with similar standards in another large journalistic organization.
You are a skilled storyteller who loves to write and produce for the ear and understands that audio content needs to succeed on multiple platforms.
You have technical and editorial experience in gathering and editing audio elements.
You are a critical thinker who keeps audience needs at the forefront when contextualizing news that shapes the political landscape.
You can work in a high‑pressure environment with deadline constraints and public scrutiny.
You forge positive relationships, valuing collaboration, transparency, respect and inclusiveness.
You value accountability within team members.

Full time, Monday to Friday, primarily daytime hours with flexibility for coast‑to‑coast collaboration and breaking news.
