Associate/Full Professor, Division of Pediatric Cardiology
Job Description
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.
The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications for an interventional cardiologist of mid to senior academic level to join as a full-time tenured track faculty within the Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. This position is a part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).
This full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track (contingent) position comprises approximately 60% time for clinical service and 40% time for academic pursuits, divided between research, teaching, and administrative duties (negotiable).
ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will join 20 pediatric cardiologists, including 2 full-time interventional cardiologists and an interventional nurse specialist. The team provides a full spectrum of clinical pediatric cardiology services with expertise in multi-modal diagnostic imaging, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, fetal cardiology, heart failure, cardiac transplantation, ventricular assist device application, preventive cardiology and pediatric cardiac rehabilitation within the Stollery Children’s Hospital Cardiac Program.
In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels and engaged in research in several areas of expertise, including clinical, translational, health services and population pillars. The Stollery Cardiac Program is one of the two largest cardiac surgical centers in Canada and we service the majority of children across Western Canada through the Western Canadian Children’s Heart Network (WCCHN), with 3 pediatric and congenital cardiac surgeons, several pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, a dedicated pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, and a surgical neonatal intensive care unit with expertise in neonatal cardiac care.
Our team performs 450 - 500 cardiac catheterization procedures per year with two thirds of the cases being interventional, including surgical hybrid, procedures. We have growing expertise in performing 3D echo-rather than angiography-guided transcatheter interventions, the first in Canada. The Interventional Cardiology Service supports the WCCHN, accepting most referrals from all three prairie provinces and from the Northwest Territories and Nunavut for diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
Interventional pediatric cardiologists at our institution work in close collaboration with the adult congenital cardiac interventional program at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Mazankowski Heart Institute which also supports all three Canadian prairie provinces. The applicant, as is true for most of our faculty, will also participate in general inpatient cardiac service and night/weekend call, and in a general outpatient clinic.
