The Edmonton Classical Academy is now accepting applications for prospective Guest Teachers (substitutes) for the 2025/2026 academic year. The Edmonton Classical Academy is Alberta's newest public charter school offering an academically rigorous liberal arts education focused on developing “the knowledge, virtues, and habits befitting free citizens.” Among the school’s distinct features are a smartphone-free environment, traditional pedagogy and teacher-led classrooms, a knowledge-rich curriculum centered on classical and enduring works of literature, philosophy, and art, a focus on character and the nurturing of virtues, a culture of friendship and leisure, and an explicit commitment to the pursuit of truth, beauty, and wisdom.
The school serves approximately 500 students from Grades K-9 and will grow to include full middle and high school programs.

- Classroom Teaching
- Interpret, adapt, and deliver lesson plans as provided by the regular teacher.
- Where complete lesson plans are not provided, quickly develop a lesson plan by referring to the relevant course lead sheet(s).
- Maintain classroom discipline.
- Record daily student attendance.
- Provide a report to the regular teacher concerning the material taught and student performance.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Education
- Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent.
- Valid Alberta teaching certificate.
Experience
- Work experience or pre-service experience within a school environment.
Relevant Skills or Attributes
- Classroom Management Skills.
- Experience delivering lessons using Direct (Explicit) Instruction and understanding and appreciation of Calgary Classical Academy’s philosophy.
- Lesson planning and design.
- Familiarity with the new Alberta Programs of Study.
- General content knowledge or specialized content knowledge or training (e.g. in math, history, languages, physical education, etc.).
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Basic First Aid.
