January to December 8-12 hours weekly with the exception on

July and August, weekly hours will be 12-16 hours

Additional Information

Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools is seeking a temporary part-time Community Mentor to plan and deliver culturally responsive programs for children and youth (ages 6–19) in partnership with Right to Play (RTP’s) Indigenous Programs. This role combines program delivery, community engagement, and event coordination, with opportunities to work closely with schools, families, and Elders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead weekly play- and outcome-based programs for children and youth (10–20 participants)
  • Coordinate child and youth programming
  • Plan, lead and assess core program
  • Support the planning and implementation of events and initiatives, The Community Mentor will plan and host three (3) mandatory intergenerational events that will allow children, caregivers, and elders to learn and play together
  • Build partnerships and program awareness
  • Administration and program evaluation
  • Facilitate three intergenerational community events for children, families, and Elders
  • Build partnerships with schools, community organizations, and leadership
  • Collect program data, support evaluation, and report outcomes
  • Attend trainings, including national program training
Qualifications
  • College diploma (completed or in progress) in Community Services, Child & Youth Care, Recreation, Education, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1–2 years experience facilitating youth programs and coordinating events
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures—especially Plains Cree language and traditions
  • Experience working collaboratively in school and/or community settings
  • Ability to develop supportive relationships with children, youth, and families
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License and reliable transportation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and WRPS Health & Safety standards
