Eligibility
In order to teach in Alberta, applicants must hold a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. The successful candidate will demonstrate alignment with the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS) and a strong commitment to embedding literacy, numeracy and STEM across the curriculum.

Position Description
1.0 FTE STEM Coach

The STEM Coach will play a key role in strengthening and expanding Thrive’s locally developed STEM program. This position focuses on both teacher capacity building and student learning, supporting the authentic integration of STEM across the Alberta Education and Childcare elementary curriculum.

Key Responsibilities include:

Collaborating with teachers to infuse STEM learning into daily classroom instruction

Supporting and extending the school’s existing STEM curriculum and practices

Co‑planning and co‑teaching with classroom teachers

Modeling effective instructional strategies in classrooms, particularly in:

Coding

Robotics

Inquiry‑based STEM learning

Coaching students in the use of tools such as Dash robots, Botley, Hummingbird kits, VEX, and similar technologies

Providing ongoing mentorship and professional support to teachers to build confidence and capacity in STEM instruction

Serving as an integral member of the extracurricular team by contributing to the development and facilitation of Thrive Time, ensuring opportunities for students to engage in hands‑on, inquiry‑based STEM enrichment beyond the classroom

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate

Bachelor of Education Degree (or equivalent recognized by Alberta Education)

Professional Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrated experience integrating STEM within the Alberta Education and Childcare elementary curriculum (required)

Strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment, and instructional practices for diverse learners

Experience supporting inclusive classrooms, including knowledge of differentiation, IPPs, and EAL learners (asset)

Knowledge of student learning, motivation, and engagement strategies

Experience with or strong interest in coding, robotics, and applied STEM technologies

Professional Dispositions

Passion for STEM education and innovation

Commitment to mentoring and coaching teachers

Strong collaboration and relationship‑building skills

Ability to foster curiosity, problem‑solving, and creativity in both students and staff
