Faculty of Academic Quality and Innovation

Reporting to the Manager, Library Services, the Circulation Technician delivers public service circulation services to students and faculty at Nor Quest College. The position provides access to reserve collections, interlibrary loan services, reference assistance, and represents Nor Quest College on relevant internal and external committees. The position also manages circulation reports, patron records, and other sources of data, and reconciles all fines and fees.

Other areas of responsibility include technical services support and subscription management, physical materials acquisition, and participation in library working groups.

The Circulation Technician is responsible for opening the library.

What you’ll make a difference

Deliver circulation desk service to patrons of the library including students, staff and faculty, including reference help, troubleshooting, and checking in/out library materials

Manage policies and procedures related to circulation services

Train staff in the use of online systems such as Ex Libris Primo and Alma

Manage patron record issues such as fines, fees, and recovery of lost/damaged materials

Manage the reserve collection including materials acquisition, creation of reserve lists, processing and removal from the collection as needed

Manage and deliver interlibrary loan services

Monitor and respond to library email and phone messages from patrons, referring questions as appropriate to the relevant staff member

Manage acquisitions and purchasing for physical collection (books, A/V) as part of an assigned subject area and/or at the direction of the Library Manager

What you bring

Two-year technical diploma from a recognized Library Technician program

Minimum of 2 years related library experience

Knowledge of basic computer applications and experience with integrated library online systems

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills practiced in a diverse environment, which includes some skills in conflict resolution with clients

Understanding and/or experience of the processes and steps of library materials acquisition

Responding to complex reference queries, which may require substantial consultation and a variety of reference interview techniques.

Leading other library staff in a functional area such as circulation and public service provision, which requires strong communication and collaborative skills while maintaining Nor Quest values in all interactions.

Making acquisitions decisions with a high degree of independence, attention to detail, and accuracy, understanding the impact these decisions can have on the library collection budget.

Leading special projects that contribute to the overall functioning and continuous improvement of Library Services, such as retrospective cataloging of older collections, implementing new software, or participating in collaborative initiatives with other institutions.

Maintaining records and data with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, contributing to everyday library decision-making and strategic direction.

AUPE Band Level 6 | Technician III | $52,121 - $67,743 reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience.
