Library Technician ; FTE

Parkland School Division (PSD) is a large progressive school jurisdiction serving Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Fort Chipewyan and Parkland County. PSD meets the diverse educational needs of over 12,000 rural and urban students among 23 sites, including outreach schools and alternative education programs.

Permanent Part‑time Library Technician I (0.357 FTE) at Muir Lake School, Stony Plain, Alberta. The role involves library duties such as book circulation, collection management, event coordination and instructional support. No benefits are provided.

• Sign books out and in, maintain orderly circulation.
• Arrange displays, events, and run book fair.
• Work with classes in the library supporting literacy.
• Manage literature collection, ordering and catalogue new materials.
• Develop and oversee Learning Commons budget.
• Create a positive learning environment encouraging student engagement.
• Support inclusive, forward‑thinking literacy initiatives.
• Use Maker Space and other innovative library practices.
• Provide instruction, research support and technology facilitation.
• Maintain safety and apply de‑escalation and non‑violent crisis intervention techniques.
• Supervise and assist students in using library resources.
• Build relationships with students and staff, promote library services.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma (required);
  Information and Library Technology Diploma or equivalent is an asset.
• 3–5 years of related experience; experience with Destiny, Discovery Education, Google Apps and hardware is an asset.
• Knowledge of Alberta Education Learning Commons Policy and Guidelines.

• Strong reading, oral, and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and sense of humor.
• Physical fitness and ability to follow direction.
• Flexibility, patience, sensitivity, enthusiasm, creativity and imagination.
• Ability to handle emotional and mental stress of working with children.
• First Aid Certificate.
• Possibility of using personal vehicle.

• May lift up to 50 lbs; occasional heavier lifting.
• Work in fast‑paced, noisy environment with interruptions.
• Stand, bend, sit, reach; provide assistance to students and staff.

• Indoor library work; occasional outdoor supervision or field trips.
• Ten‑month contract; no pay during winter, spring, or summer breaks.
• Potential use of personal vehicle.

• Must respect confidentiality and the integrity of students, parents, teachers and staff.
• Requires original clean criminal record check and child intervention record check.
• Covered by CUPE Collective Agreement.
• Hours:
  
  12.5 h/week (Mon‑Fri 8:00‑10:30).
• Pay: $24.17 – $26.98 (Pay Group
  2).
