Temporary Full-time Teaching Position

Parkland School Division (PSD) offers a Temporary Full‑time (1.0 FTE) teaching position at Ecole Meridian Heights School in Stony Plain, Alberta. The successful applicant will teach Grade 7/8 Math & Science, Grade 6 Math, and English Language Arts.

• Creating, delivering and assessing programming to support students in developing academic, social, emotional, and personal management skills.
• Delivering programming with the goal of integrating students into a typical classroom and supporting students as they transition.
• Designing learning opportunities that meet individual students’ needs.
• Working effectively as a team member with school staff, school support team members, and community agency personnel.
• Ensuring strong supervision and monitoring processes are in place.
• Supporting families in addressing needs related to their child’s learning.
• Ensuring strong routines and consistent expectations are maintained.

Teachers collaborate and engage with students, parents and communities to create learning environments that promote student success and well‑being. Teachers value inclusion, diversity, and support student well‑being.

• Work under the supervision of the Principal.
• Work one‑on‑one, in small groups, and/or in a classroom setting with students.
• Work with a particular special‑needs student or a group of students within a class or in a special program.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

As a teacher, you are responsible to demonstrate the competencies and abilities of the Alberta Teachers’ Association Teaching Quality Standards. You will work with students to teach the programs of study and have the ability to differentiate and adapt the curriculum for all learners. You will collaborate with staff to create a welcoming, safe, and respected environment for every student.

• Apply effective planning, instruction, and assessment practices to meet the learning needs of every student.
• Provide evidence to support student learning using a wide range of assessment tools and strategies.
• Use and integrate technology as a tool for teaching and learning.
• Use a variety of teaching and learning strategies that accommodate the learning needs of all learners.
• Integrate experiential and/or inquiry‑based learning opportunities into the curriculum.
• Continuously enable students to develop literacy and numeracy skills.
• Provide timely feedback on student learning.
• Differentiate, modify and adapt the program for individual students.
• Collaborate with the student support team and implement Individual Program Plan (IPP).
• Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students.

• Prepare, observe, document and monitor individual student progress and behaviour.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for both students and staff through behavioural management strategies such as de‑escalation methods and non‑violent crisis intervention techniques.
• Deal with student behaviour and determine classroom discipline if required.

• Help students with speech language difficulties as instructed by the Speech Pathologist.
• Update progress on a daily basis for IPP purposes.
• Provide physiotherapy programmes as directed.
• Model and practice speech programmes.
• Liaise with members of the Therapy Team to monitor student progress and use of assistive technology or devices.

• Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the greater community.
• Maintain up‑to‑date records of assessments, attendance, planning, reports and communication to parents.
• Maintain home‑school communication using various techniques (paper agenda, Google Classroom, email, verbal conversation, etc.).

• Develop a positive learning environment in the classroom.
• Use effective time and classroom management strategies to encourage a positive environment and opportunities for student leadership.
