Sturgeon Public Schools is seeking enthusiastic, adaptable, and student-focused Substitute Teachers to join our team across a wide range of grade levels and subject areas. With 16 schools serving diverse rural and urban communities throughout Sturgeon County, including two high schools, substitute teachers play a vital role in ensuring students continue to learn, grow, and thrive when their regular teacher is away.
Whether your passion is elementary education, secondary academics, Career and Technology Studies (CTS), French Immersion, the arts, or physical education, we invite you to bring your talents to our classrooms. We're especially looking for substitutes in:
- French Immersion (Elementary)
- Band / Music
- CTS:
Welding, Construction, Mechanics, Foods, Fashions, Cosmetology - Physical Education
- Mathematics and other core subject areas
Substitute teachers play an essential role in maintaining continuity of learning and supporting positive classroom environments when regular teachers are absent. Through their flexibility, professionalism, and ability to quickly build relationships with students, substitute teachers help ensure that learning continues with minimal disruption. Every day brings a new opportunity to inspire students, support school communities, and contribute to a positive and engaging educational experience.

- Learning plans, teacher instructions, and classroom routines are implemented effectively
- Positive relationships are established quickly with students and school staff
- Classroom expectations are maintained in a respectful and supportive manner
- Students remain engaged in meaningful learning activities throughout the day
- Adaptability and professionalism are demonstrated across a variety of grade levels, subjects, and school settings
- Clear communication is maintained with school staff regarding student learning, behaviour, and daily activities
- School procedures, policies, and safety expectations are followed consistently
- You contribute positively to the culture and success of each school community you support
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification
- A passion for teaching and the ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to creating inclusive, welcoming, and supportive learning environments
- Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written English
- Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
