Duties
The ED-LAT-01 Second Language Teacher primarily provides second language learning services and training in French and/or English. In addition to analyzing learners' specific language needs and developing learning plans tailored to their needs, the teacher is responsible for assessing learners' linguistic progress, providing advice, and guiding them in their learning based on periodic testing.

For better coordination, the language teacher is also responsible for consulting, informing and sharing information not only with the learners, but also with the team leader in order to create and update the learners' learning records. The language teacher actively contributes to the improvement of the Internal Language Training Program, which is constantly evolving to meet the growing and diverse needs of the clientele.

Work environment
The Centre of Expertise for Learning and Professional Development (CoELPD) is responsible for the development, delivery and coordination of training at the Department. The Language Training Program (LTP), part of CoELPD, offers language training to all departmental employees. With the growing and diversified needs of its clientele, the LTP offers a wide range of services in order to better adapt to the demand.

To this end, the LTP is seeking second language teachers to join its dynamic and innovative Language Training Team. In addition, the use of technology in the delivery of language training and the contribution to the development of e-learning tools not only reach all employees in all departmental offices across Canada but also facilitate the adaptation to the specific learning needs of learners.

Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff three (3) bilingual imperative (various profiles) positions on an indeterminate basis.

A pool of partially or fully assessed candidates may be established to staff similar positions within the Department of Justice with various tenures, work locations, operational requirements, organizational needs and/or conditions of employment. The FIRST EXTRACTION of applications is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Any subsequent extractions will take place on an “as and when needed” basis.

Education
  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization
    * in education, linguistics, sociology, psychology, mathematics, physics, home economics or some other specialty relevant to the positions in the classification.
    * Specialization may be formed from an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience
  • EX1:
    Considerable experience
    * teaching French or English as a second language to adult learners at various proficiency levels.
  • EX2:
    Considerable experience
    * in planning, developing, adapting and delivering language training programs, course outlines, lesson plans or individualized learning plans.
  • EX3:
    Considerable experience
    * evaluating learner progress, providing feedback, and making recommendations to adult learners in language training.
  • EX4:
    Experience using audio/video technology when teaching French or English in a virtual environment such, as but not limited to, MS Teams, Web Ex, etc.
    * Considerable experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with performance of the duties as a language teacher over a period of three (3) years.

    Experience developing instructional material in French or in English for use in a Language Training Program.
