Job Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide high-quality early years instruction and create a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development of young learners.

Responsibilities include:

• Planning and delivering Alberta curriculum-aligned Kindergarten programming that promotes foundational literacy, numeracy, inquiry, and play-based learning.
• Creating engaging, developmentally appropriate, and student-centred learning experiences that foster curiosity, creativity, independence, and a love of learning.
• Establishing a safe, caring, and inclusive classroom environment that supports positive relationships, self-regulation, and social-emotional development.
• Utilizing differentiated instruction and assessment practices to meet the diverse developmental and learning needs of students.
• Monitoring student progress through observation, formative and summative assessment, and maintaining ongoing communication with families regarding student growth and achievement.
• Supporting students with a range of learning needs through collaboration with Learner Support staff, Educational Assistants, and families.
• Developing, implementing, and reviewing Learner Support Plans (LSPs), IPPs, and classroom accommodations as required.
• Maintaining accurate student records, assessment data, attendance, and reporting using the school platforms.
• Collaborating with colleagues in professional learning communities to enhance instructional practices and support continuous school improvement.
• Building strong partnerships with families to support student learning, well-being, and successful school-home communication.
• Integrating Islamic values, character education, and respectful citizenship into daily classroom practices.
• Participating in school events, supervision, professional learning, and extracurricular activities as required.

In addition to demonstrating strong teaching competencies, applicants must possess:

• A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.
• A Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization in Elementary or Early Childhood Education.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching Kindergarten or early elementary students.
• Strong knowledge of Alberta Education Kindergarten curriculum, assessment, and reporting requirements.
• Experience implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based, and inquiry-driven instructional practices.
• Effective classroom management skills and the ability to establish a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with students, parents, and colleagues.

• Experience teaching Kindergarten or early elementary grades within the Alberta education system.
• Knowledge of early literacy and numeracy intervention strategies.
• Experience supporting diverse learners through differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
• Experience integrating educational technology to enhance student engagement and learning.
• Participation in professional learning communities and collaborative school improvement initiatives.
• Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) or inquiry-based learning approaches is considered an asset.
• First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
• A demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive, caring, and child-centred classroom where every student feels valued and supported.
