Parkland School Division (PSD) is a large progressive school jurisdiction serving Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Fort Chipewyan, and Parkland County. PSD meets the diverse educational needs of over 12,000 rural and urban students across 23 sites, including outreach schools and alternative education programs.

The Parkland School Division currently has a Part -time Education Assistant (0.571 FTE) (Certified/Non-Certified) position available at Ecole Meridian Heights School in Stony Plain, Alberta. This position primarily focuses on supporting French Immersion literacy groups and students with complex needs, while maintaining the flexibility to seamlessly transition into English classrooms to support broader student and operational needs as required.

The successful candidate will provide dedicated one-to-one and small-group support to french immersion students with complex learning, developmental, or behavioral needs across both French Immersion and English settings. You will help students with using AAC devices, PECs, lifts and transfers, speech and language support, toileting, gross motor support, and feeding. Exceptional organizational and time-management skills are required, as is a strong ability to foster positive relationships, collaborate effectively with school staff, and build trusting rapport with the children.

• Work under the supervision of one teacher or several different teachers

The EA Certified/Non Certified employees provide routine and repetitive instructional support. Under the direction of the teacher, the EA assists the student in acquiring the education and skills necessary for advancement in the educational setting. To reach this objective, the EA follows an individually prescribed learning program through team planning and working one-on-one with the student(s). This involves routine recording, basic charting, and logging of observations on anecdotal record sheets or data sheets.

EA Certified/Non Certified does provide personal care to students.

• Provide assistance in all curriculum areas/one on one or in small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Help with organizing notebooks, timetables, agendas, and lockers.
• Scribe notes from the board and scribe and read exams for students as required.
• Modify and adapt the program for individual students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Assist in the implementation of Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals and adaptive devices.
• Assist students with computer access.
• Provide support to students utilizing various educational software packages.
• Providing assistance to communicate with peers and adults in the school (e.g., American Sign Language, assistive tech. devices).
• Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students.

• Under the direction of the teacher, observe, chart and monitor individual student progress and behaviour.
• Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe and secure environment for both students and staff through the application of de-escalation strategies and non-violent physical intervention techniques.
