Imperial is recruiting Chemical Engineering students for a work term at the Strathcona Refinery in Edmonton. You will work under the guidance of staff Chemical Engineers to support safe, reliable, and profitable operation of process units. The role involves understanding petrochemical refining processes, process safety, process controls, and unit optimization, and may include opportunities in manufacturing, environmental, supply & logistics, and process control & application teams.
Whatyou will do
- Collaborate with operations, reliability, process technical and automation engineers to support safe and reliable unit operation.
- Work with cross‑functional teams to identify, develop and implement operational and facility improvements focused on safety, reliability, economics and sustainability.
- Effectively communicate status of unit operation, improvement opportunities and operating costs to various stakeholders.
We are looking for students who:
Skills and Qualifications- Are studying to achieve a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering (or related discipline).
- Are a University Engineering student available for a work term beginning in September 2026 and will return to full‑time studies after the term.
- Will submit your most recent unofficial transcript(s) with your application.
- Have demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills.
- Previous industry experience is considered beneficial, but not essential.
- Commitment to safety on and off the job.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team‑based environment.

Work Term8, 12, or 16 months (depending on student availability).
