Position: Building Envelope/Science Engineer Group Lead )

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Building Envelope / Building Science Engineer – Group Lead to lead and grow our Building Science team in Edmonton. This role combines technical excellence, project leadership, business development, and people management. The successful candidate will oversee the delivery of complex building envelope projects, mentor technical staff, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to the strategic growth of the practice.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in building envelope design, assessment, rehabilitation, and forensic investigations, along with demonstrated leadership capabilities and a commitment to delivering high-quality consulting services.

Technical Leadership
  • Provide senior technical leadership for building envelope and building science projects.
  • Oversee investigations, assessments, design, rehabilitation, and commissioning of building envelope systems.
  • Review and approve technical reports, specifications, drawings, and construction documents.
  • Lead forensic investigations involving moisture intrusion, air leakage, condensation, thermal performance, and durability issues.
  • Provide expert guidance on roofing, cladding, curtain wall, glazing, waterproofing, and below‑grade enclosure systems.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable building codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control processes across all projects.
Team Leadership & Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technologists, and building science specialists.
  • Manage staff performance, professional development, workload planning, and resource allocation.
  • Foster a collaborative, safety‑focused, and high‑performance work setting.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Promote technical knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the group.
Project Management
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously from proposal through completion.
  • Establish project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Monitor project performance, profitability, and client satisfaction.
  • Identify and manage project risks while maintaining quality and schedule objectives.
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines, contractors, architects, developers, and building owners.
Business Development & Client Relations
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Lead proposal preparation, fee development, and contract negotiations.
  • Identify market opportunities and contribute to strategic business growth initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and professional associations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients regarding building enclosure performance and asset management strategies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and registration (or eligibility for registration) with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in building envelope/building science consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and managing complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of building enclosure systems, building physics, and moisture management principles.
  • Experience conducting field investigations and condition assessments.
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
