Industrial Communications Engineer
Job Overview
Engineering Services are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communications Engineer to lead the development and implementation of next-generation telecommunications systems and infrastructure, focusing on radio communications (particularly in the new area of 450MHz range), satellite, 5G, 6G, and subsequent evolutions.
The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Instrumentation and Controls engineers, operating sites, facility planning, and project management to ensure the performance, reliability, and scalability of our industrial communications systems. The engineer will provide qualified advice, technical expertise, and design support, collaborate with vendors and contractors, and act as the company’s representative in telecommunications matters worldwide.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, install, and troubleshoot communications systems, including radio, satellite, 5G/6G technologies.
- Provide technical support and expertise for the development, implementation, and troubleshooting of telecommunications systems and infrastructure.
- Originate and carry out engineering studies to determine optimal solutions to complex technical problems, increase revenue, reduce cost, and improve process safety.
- Lead task teams in investigating incidents or solving specific technical problems, and undertake special assignments requiring extensive technical experience and discretion.
- Develop and maintain company standards, material specifications, procedures, and best practices to enhance profitability, safety, and productivity, applying relevant industry codes and standards.
- Review and evaluate vendor and contractor capabilities, represent the company in technical dealings, and introduce best practices and new technologies.
- Perform cost analyses and value engineering studies to recommend cost‑effective solutions.
- Conduct seminars, technical exchange meetings, and publish papers for peer‑reviewed journals, presenting at international technical meetings.
- Deliver technical courses to young talent through the Technical Services Professional Academy (TSPA).
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Telecommunications, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a related accredited field.
- 20 years of progressive experience in telecommunications, including at least 5 years focused on radio communications, satellite communications, and 5G technologies.
- Knowledge of telecommunications systems: network architecture, protocol, infrastructure design, and performance optimization.
- Experience in IoT/IIoT applications, civil engineering and underground infrastructure, fiber‑optic cable design, and industrial wireless protocols such as ISA
100 and Wireless HART. - Strong understanding of telecommunications standards and regulations related to 5G, 6G, satellite, and radio communications.
- Recognized as a proven expert within the industry and professional societies.
- IoT/IIoT and its applications in telecommunications.
- Civil engineering and underground infrastructure design for fiber‑optic cables.
- Wireless communications, including Industrial wireless protocols (ISA
100, Wireless HART). - Telecommunications standards and regulations (5G, 6G, satellite, radio).
