We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Civil Designer who is eager to teach and grow within our dynamic team in either Calgary or Edmonton.
The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in designing and drafting engineering projects (in addition to providing design and drafting administrative support), is a proactive problem solver, and always ready to take on various tasks and contribute to different aspects of our projects.
Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, and under the mentorship of the Civil Project Manager, Civil Project Engineer, and Civil Design Lead, you will help develop the technical skills of our Intermediate/Junior Designers in a supportive and collaborative environment.
The results you are responsible for include:
Provide Civil Design and Drafting Support
3D design and modeling for grading plans and drainage plans using Civil3D.
Interpretation of topographic information required for design.
Site grading and earthworks balancing and optimization.
Development of plans, sections, and details from 3D models.
Preparation of detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Infra Works.
Create design sketches to assist with preliminary designs and/or design clarifications for construction.
Create drawing sets from Preliminary design phase to Issued for Construction (IFC).
Use survey data to create quantity take-offs, heat maps, and record drawings.
Provide Civil Design and Drafting Administration Support
Communicate and interface with Civil Design Lead.
Ensure compliance with approved design standards and specifications to provide quality design; adhere to company drafting standards and procedures.
Verify and assign back-drafting.
Communicate with Clients in a professional and succinct manner.
Continuous development to maintain knowledge of various design and drafting software packages.
Mentor Growth of Intermediate/Junior Civil Designers
Actively engaged in mentoring the growth and development of Intermediate/Junior Designers.
Provide guidance, training, and instruction to junior staff and technical to ensure completion of the design objectives

Education/
Experience:
Engineering Design & Drafting Technology (EDDT) diploma from a recognized institution.
10+ years of relevant civil design/drafting experience that exemplifies Journey's values and has prepared you for the responsibilities above.
Preference for candidates possessing ASET Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Professional Technologist (P.Tech.) designation .
Experience working in a dynamic environment, able to adapt to changing priorities, ability to accurately analyze information and deal with ambiguous situations, and a strong desire to mentor others.
Proficient with Autodesk products (AutoCAD and Civil 3D), PDF Editors (e.g., Blue Beam Revu, Adobe Acrobat), and Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).
Experience with Autodesk Infra Works and QGIS considered a benefit but not necessary.
Valid Alberta Driver’s license (or equivalent).
