Job Details

The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Recreation and Parks department as a Community Events Coordinator. Reporting to the Supervisor, Special Events, the Community Events Coordinator is responsible for supporting events within the City of St Albert by liaising with event organizers, booking space for the event and coordinating available resources with the organizers.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing special event applications through established approval processes, and providing the event organizers with cost estimates, space bookings, required insurance, permits, and licenses.
  • Coordinating with and communicating to City departments and external contractors the requirements for events, be physically in attendance for major events (and as directed by Supervisor for minor events) and provide support & troubleshooting for any emergent issues with organizers.
  • Coordinating and delivery of recreation events to the community from initial event planning to successful event implementation.
  • Responding to public and community organization inquiries, prepares required booking confirmations and license agreements, communicates scheduled events, assists in fee review and creation of strategic plans and budgets within Recreation and Parks and monitors and reports on special events, in alignment with operational procedures.
  • Maintaining an understanding of emerging trends in their portfolio areas, anticipates the impact of these trends on future service delivery and works within the business unit to address resource-planning needs.
  • Monitoring revenues and expenses within relevant cost centers.
  • Supporting on site during events with checking-in with the event organizer and ensuring all requests are delivered, as needed.
  • Qualifications

  • Two-year diploma in event management, hospitality, recreation, or a related field combined with 3 years of related experience or a one-year certificate and 4 years of related experience.
  • Membership with Alberta Recreation or Parks Association is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with software applications including Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Experience with recreation CRM software is an asset.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

    Hours of Work

  • 5 - 35 hours per week, based on operational needs or as workload requires.
  • This position requires availability on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends.
  • Compensation

  • The wage ranges from $35.54 - $43.75 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
  • Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for a development opportunity at a lower classification and salary.

    Term

    This position has an end date of December 31, 2026, with a possibility of an extension.
