Controller

Our client is seeking an ambitious and strategic Controller to lead the financial function and support the organization's aggressive growth goals. This role is responsible for producing monthly financial statements, managing cash flow, overseeing payroll, and handling accounts payable and receivable. As the sole accountant, you will have autonomy to develop the finance department and influence key business decisions. The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, payroll compliance expertise, and the ability to partner with leadership as a strategic advisor.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Prepare monthly profit and loss statements and cash flow reports
  • Manage payroll processes, ensuring compliance and accurate commission payouts
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Facilitate corporate and provincial tax requirements in collaboration with external accounting firms
  • Implement and optimize financial processes, leveraging technology and AI tools for efficiency
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Payroll and Director of Compliance to ensure accuracy and regulatory adherence
  • Support leadership with financial insights and participate in strategic planning meetings
  • Transition into an executive team role within three months, contributing to long-term growth strategies
  • Communicate effectively with brokers and internal stakeholders to resolve inquiries promptly
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial systems and internal controls
  • Your strengths include:
  • CPA designation or equivalent
  • 3+ years with a public accounting firm and 3+ years in industry
  • Strong technical accounting and payroll compliance knowledge
  • Experience with Quick Books and payroll systems (e.g., Scarlett)
  • Ability to manage complexity across multiple divisions and entities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with brokers and leadership
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with energy, ambition, and a drive for growth
  • Ability to work independently and influence financial strategy
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
