Assistant Controller

Our client is seeking a driven and detail‑focused Assistant Controller to oversee day‑to‑day accounting activities and take ownership of recurring financial reporting across multiple legal entities. This role is responsible for leading the close and reporting cycle, strengthening controls and workflows, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and providing practical finance support to operational teams. The ideal candidate brings a CPA designation, strong Excel capability, proven people leadership, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑moving environment.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Lead the monthly close process and ensure financial deliverables are accurate, complete, and on time
  • Review financial reporting packages and supporting schedules for consistency and quality
  • Provide meaningful insights through variance analysis, rolling forecasts, and cash flow projections
  • Oversee core accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany activity, and treasury transactions
  • Support annual budgeting and ongoing reforecasting activities
  • Coordinate compliance requirements and support external audits through documentation and audit response management
  • Improve the efficiency and reliability of accounts payable and receivable processes
  • Partner with operational leaders to align financial practices with business needs and support operational finance initiatives
  • Lead, coach, and develop a small accounting team through regular feedback and clear prioritization
  • Promote accountability, follow‑through, and continuous improvement across the team
  • Your strengths include:
  • CPA designation
  • 2+ years of full‑cycle accounting experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership, supervisory, or mentorship role
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Business Central, SAP, or JD Edwards (asset)
  • Exposure to operational finance, logistics, transportation, or job‑costing environments (asset)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in a dynamic, deadline‑driven environment
  • Collaborative, ownership‑driven, and team‑first mindset
