Investment Banking Associate – Cleantech & Energy Transition
As an Investment Banking Associate on the Cleantech & Energy Transition Investment Banking team at National Bank Capital Markets, you play a lead role in supporting the team’s deal execution and pitch activity. You will participate in a wide variety of transactions led by senior members of the team and deepen your knowledge of the investment banking industry, with a focus on clean technologies and energy transition sectors.
This role provides ample opportunity for career growth, as well as opportunities to collaborate with National Bank’s other Capital Markets business lines to help deepen your capital markets knowledge, including Equity Capital Markets, Credit Capital Markets, and Fixed Income.
Your Job- Evaluate and analyze the financial needs of corporate clients, including building complex financial models and performing valuation analysis.
- Support deal teams with transaction structuring and execute advisory and financing mandates with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability over time.
- Prepare presentation materials to support clients’ strategic and capital decision‑making.
- Draft marketing materials for transactions, including investor presentations, prospectuses, and related documentation.
- Conduct company and industry research and analysis, with a focus on cleantech, and energy transition trends.
- Perform various tasks supporting senior team members in their deal execution and client coverage efforts.
- Mentor and guide analysts on the team, providing coaching and support to help them develop technical and professional skills.

This group currently consists of over 170 professionals located in offices in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and New York. The Investment Banking Group has demonstrated considerable momentum over the last few years, experiencing strong growth in deal flow.
The Cleantech & Energy Transition Investment Banking team is looking to hire an experienced associate to work out of its Calgary office. Although the emphasis is placed on analysis, financial modelling, and written presentations, candidates must also demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and other advisors.
Basic Requirements- At least 5 years of experience in investment banking, transaction advisory, equity research, or capital markets.
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or engineering is preferred, with a track record of strong academic performance.
- Strong knowledge of financial theory, accounting, and capital markets.
- Experience in, or knowledge of, cleantech, renewable energy, and energy transition sectors would be highly valued.
- Demonstrated financial modelling skillset, with experience developing complex, dynamic financial models; ideal candidates would come from quantitative backgrounds with prior finance work experience (CFA designation is valued)
- Exceptional proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Experience with Bloomberg and Capital IQ would be considered an asset.

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships.
