Regulatory & Compliance Manager – English
Moto Canada is a national, not‑for‑profit industry association representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, ATVs, side‑by‑side (ROVs), and the broader powersports sector across Canada. As the voice of the industry, Moto Canada plays a key role in advancing public policy and regulatory frameworks that promote safety, environmental responsibility, innovation, and sustainable growth.
The role is a Regulatory & Compliance Manager to lead regulatory affairs, compliance oversight, and technical policy coordination across the powersports sector. Reporting to the Vice President, Government Relations, this role serves as the organization’s internal subject‑matter expert on vehicle regulations, safety standards, environmental compliance, product certification, and emerging policy developments impacting the industry. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with member companies, regulators, government stakeholders, and industry partners to ensure regulatory alignment, mitigate compliance risk, and support evidence‑based advocacy.
ResponsibilitiesRegulatory Compliance & Product Certification
- Monitor, interpret, and communicate regulatory requirements affecting powersports vehicles in Canada, the U.S., and international markets.
- Ensure compliance with key regulatory frameworks, including Canadian and U.S. vehicle safety and certification standards (Transport Canada, NHTSA/FMVSS); emissions and environmental regulations (EPA, CARB, noise and sustainability requirements); occupational health and safety standards; product labelling, importation, and market access requirements.
- Coordinate product homologation and certification processes for new vehicle introductions.
- Review technical documentation, conformity declarations, and certification records.
- Maintain compliance systems, documentation, and audit records.
- Support recall management, defect investigations, and corrective action processes.
- Support engagement with federal, provincial, territorial, and international regulators and industry bodies.
- Represent Moto Canada in technical committees, working groups, and consultations.
- Prepare technical submissions, regulatory analyses, briefing notes, and policy position papers.
- Monitor and assess regulatory and policy developments impacting the sector, including electrification, emissions, trade, import/export, and off‑road vehicle access and land use considerations.
- Provide regulatory guidance to leadership and cross‑functional teams.
- Collaborate with engineering, legal, marketing, sales, supply chain, and technical services teams.
- Support compliance reviews of technical publications, owner manuals, marketing claims, and safety communications.
- Develop internal compliance processes, policies, and frameworks.
- Conduct compliance audits and risk assessments.
- Identify regulatory risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support product liability reviews and incident investigations.
- Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and record‑retention practices.
- Coordinate regulatory inspections and third‑party audits.
- Deliver compliance and regulatory training to internal teams, dealers, and stakeholders.
- Develop guidance materials, compliance tools, and checklists.
- Prepare briefings and regulatory updates for leadership and member organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (engineering, public policy, environmental science, law, business).
- 5–10+ years’ experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, or product certification.
- Experience in automotive, powersports, transportation, or manufacturing sectors preferred.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle regulations, certification processes, and environmental compliance frameworks.
- Bilingual in English and French (written and spoken).
- Strong regulatory interpretation and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
