Senior PlannerOur client is seeking a Senior Planner to provide leadership and technical expertise in municipal planning, development services, and regional planning initiatives. This role is responsible for overseeing complex planning applications, guiding policy development, supervising planning staff, and advancing
strategic planning objectives that support sustainable community growth. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership capabilities, extensive municipal planning experience, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships within a dynamic public-sector environment.
Your success will be defined by your ability to:Lead and oversee complex planning and development initiativesProvide supervision, coaching, and mentorship to planning staffManage land development applications, policy planning, and regional planning mattersDevelop, implement, and maintain statutory plans, bylaws, and planning policiesRepresent the municipality in discussions with regional partners, stakeholders, and public bodiesProvide strategic planning advice and recommendations to leadership and CouncilLead cross-functional projects, public engagement initiatives, and consultant relationshipsEnsure planning decisions align with municipal objectives, legislation, and industry best practicesBuild collaborative relationships with internal departments, developers, and external stakeholdersBalance multiple priorities while delivering high-quality planning outcomes in a complex environmentYour strengths include:Bachelor's degree in Planning or a related fieldFull membership or eligibility for membership with the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) and the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal planning or consulting environmentStrong knowledge of urban planning principles, land use planning processes, and municipal legislationExperience leading complex planning projects, policy initiatives, and development applicationsDemonstrated leadership, coaching, and staff supervision experienceStrong project management, research, and analytical capabilitiesExcellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholdersPolitical awareness and sound judgment when managing sensitive planning mattersAbility to interpret legislation, policies, and regulations while providing strategic recommendationsStrong relationship-building, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with planning and design software is considered an assetValid Class 5 Driver's License required
