The Ministry of Municipal Affairs supports municipalities in providing well-managed, fiscally responsible, and accountable local government to Albertans. This includes administering municipal grant programs; delivering advisory and capacity-building supports; providing municipal services and managing public lands in the province’s three Special Areas; and overseeing the safety codes system in the province. The ministry also fosters stronger, safer communities across the province, and enables local governments to facilitate Alberta’s economic prosperity.
Role Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Provide analysis and advice to support departmental policies, programs, and priorities.
Review and manage Ministerial Orders, ensuring accurate routing, tracking, and compliance with government processes.
Ensure quality control of 100–150 annual Ministerial Order packages, including editing for accuracy, consistency, and formatting.
Coordinate publication of legislative documents and maintain proper records management.
Conduct environmental scanning to inform policy and program development.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support policy, legislative, and regulatory processes.
Develop and maintain governance documents (e.g., Delegations of Authority, reference guides) and provide operational support as needed.

Qualifications
University graduation in Public Policy or Administration, Business, Law, Arts; no experience required; or equivalent as described below:
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Requirements
Knowledge of the Ministry, government guidelines and decision-making processes, and government legislative procedures and requirements.
Ability to interpret Ministry legislation and regulations, such as the Municipal Government Act, the Safety Codes Act, and the Local Authorities Election Act, and government-wide legislation, such as the Government Organization Act, and the Designation and Transfer of Responsibility Regulation.
Knowledge of the Ministry, its divisions, associated agencies, boards, and commissions, and the programs delivered by the Ministry.
An understanding of decision-making processes in the Government of Alberta and how policies, legislation and regulations are approved through Ministries, Cabinet, and its Committees.
An understanding of the processes of the Legislative Assembly, how Bills become law, and the ability to locate and interpret Standing Orders of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
Proficiency in the use of software programs (such as Microsoft 365, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint Online, Action Request Tracking System (ARTS)).
Must Be Able To
Work in a high-volume environment.
Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, editing and proofreading skills.
Ability to multitask and change priorities as needed to meet tight deadlines.
