EMERGENCY MEASURES OFFICER

Full time indefinite hire

Summary of Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the role of the Emergency Measures Officer is to provide guidance and support to inform emergency management activities taking place across Akwesasne. This guidance and support may take the form of the provision of templates to aid in the development of key deliverables, such as emergency measures plan template, provision of emergency management training and technical guidance to partners and stakeholders.

The EMO assists in creating emergency plans, takes the lead in hazardous materials response, coordinates and delivers training, coordinates and manages the Emergency Operation Center (EOC), and acts as the MCA representative on all emergency management matters. This is a 24‑hour on‑call position that is directed and assigned as a “first point of contact” for Chief and Council and MCA upper management during an emergency or crisis event.

Qualifications
  • 2‑Year Emergency Management Degree with five (5) years of experience in the field and certification as an Emergency Management trainer.
  • OR
  • 2‑Year Degree in an equivalent field of study (e.g. public safety, law enforcement, leadership, etc.) with seven (7) years of experience and certification as a trained instructor.
  • Must have a clear CPIC.
