Role Responsibilities

Are you passionate about developing policies and programs that improve the lives of Albertans with disabilities and their families? The Disability Policy and Supports Branch is seeking a collaborative and analytical Program and Policy Advisor to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives related to provincial disability programs, including the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) and Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) programs.

In this role, you will conduct research and policy analysis, coordinate projects, prepare strategic briefing materials, and provide evidence-based recommendations that support informed decision‑making. Working closely with internal and external partners, you will contribute to policy initiatives that promote inclusion, independence, and meaningful outcomes for Albertans.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting research, environmental scans, and policy analysis to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of disability‑related policies and programs.
  • Researching legislation, regulations, policies, and emerging trends to identify opportunities, risks, and implications for provincial programs.
  • Preparing briefing notes, correspondence, reports, presentations, and other materials for senior leadership and executive decision‑makers.
  • Coordinating policy and program projects, ensuring deliverables are completed on time and align with government priorities.
  • Synthesizing information from multiple sources into concise, evidence‑based recommendations and communication materials.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across ministries and with external stakeholders to support policy development and implementation.
  • Participating on committees and working groups, representing program policy interests and contributing to collaborative solutions.
  • Monitoring emerging issues and providing advice on potential impacts to disability programs and services.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement activities and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring work complies with legislative requirements, government policies, and information management practices.
