The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, emergency response and recovery, policing and police oversight and public safety. The ministry works to ensure the development, availability and access to Restorative Justice, Victim Services, and specialized courts and administers federal firearms legislation and advocates for Alberta’s lawful firearms owners and promotes safety.

The Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS) was created in July 2025, and once operational, will strengthen Alberta’s existing policing model and complement the province’s current police services. The ASPS will help fill law enforcement service gaps and ensure its law enforcement resources are deployed efficiently to meet Alberta’s evolving public safety needs.

Reporting to an Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS), Deputy Chief, the Inspector provides strategic and operational leadership to support public safety, organizational excellence, and the successful delivery of policing services. The position is accountable for ensuring operational effectiveness, risk mitigation, and compliance with legal, regulatory, and human rights standards in a complex policing environment.

As one of the inaugural members of the ASPS, the Inspector will play a critical role in establishing the organization and supporting the transition of Alberta Sheriffs personnel, functions, and resources into the new police service. This foundational phase requires an experienced law enforcement leader with vision, leadership, and operational expertise to help build a modern, professional policing organization within Alberta's public safety landscape.

Following the establishment of the ASPS, the Inspector will lead assigned policing and support functions and ensure effective delivery of operational plans, programs, and services. Areas of responsibility may include Highway Patrol, Interdiction Patrol Teams, Investigative Services, Intelligence, Police of Jurisdiction (POJ), Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services (FWES), Community Services, and other portfolios assigned by the Deputy Chief in consultation with the Chief of Police.

The Inspector will also provide leadership in community safety, crime prevention, stakeholder engagement, and organizational development while fostering public trust and confidence in ASPS.

You are an accomplished policing leader with 15 years of experience, including five years in senior leadership roles. You have led complex policing operations, diverse teams, and organizational change initiatives, supported by knowledge of policing legislation, policies, standards, and the federal, provincial, and municipal frameworks that shape public safety. Through a combination of education and related experience, you bring expertise in quality management systems, incident command structures, policing technologies, analytics, and information systems.

You have experience building effective relationships with law enforcement partners, government agencies, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders, and demonstrate political acuity, sound judgment, and strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
