Job Description  |  |  | | --- | --- | | Planner I - Infill Liaison  Job Number: 56021  Help shape the future of urban growth and density by joining our dynamic Infill Liaison Team. We are seeking a proactive Planner I to build strong connections, deliver education, and solve complex infill challenges.  Supporting the Infill Liaison Team, you will lead outreach, education, and engagement programs for both internal and external communities.

This role is central to aligning city operations, addressing complex inquiries, conducting policy research, and advancing sustainable land-use solutions.  
** What will you do?*
* * Coordinate across internal City branches (such as waste, forestry, and parking) to align practices and resolve infill issues
* Conduct policy research and data analysis on urban design, waste management, and parking to inform future planning
* Draft administrative updates, briefing notes, memos, and reports for senior leadership and City Council
* Develop and deliver education and outreach initiatives for builders, development professionals, and community groups
* Facilitate sessions, infill tours, and informational workshops to showcase quality urban design and growth policies
* Evaluate input, complaints, and trends from engagement participants and local residents to recommend policy or process improvements
* Provide expert commentary on zoning bylaw amendments, land use proposals, and operational updates
* Act as a key technical resource for complex inquiries, balancing various viewpoints in a high-profile field  Qualifications :  
* Undergraduate degree in Urban Planning, Business Administration, Public Governance, or a related field
* Minimum of 2 years of related professional experience in land use planning or municipal development
* Candidates with less than two years of relevant experience may be considered for an opportunity concept   
** Assets:*
* * Masters degree in Urban Planning, Business Administration, Public Governance, or a related field
* Eligibility for or active membership in the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI)   
** Skills required for success:*
* * Strategic political acumen to navigate complex public and political land use discussions
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills tailored to varied audiences
* Strong collaborative skills to establish long-term trust with key collaborators and internal operational units
* Analytical capability to evaluate municipal data, draft land use recommendations, and interpret complex zoning policy
* Advanced conflict resolution and negotiation skills to address competing growth priorities
* Sound judgment, discretion, and diplomacy under project timelines and public scrutiny
* Project management skills to organize long-term outreach programs and track cross-branch deliverables
* Creative problem-solving skills to translate complex land use technicalities into accessible dialogue

* This role works primarily in an indoor setting
* Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time
