The Transit Peace Officer will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and inclusive environment for all passengers using Edmonton's public transit system. You will be a visible and reassuring presence, responding to a variety of situations with professionalism, compassion, and integrity.

What will you do?

Respond to security emergencies, incidents and general complaints occurring at Edmonton Transit facilities or on Edmonton Transit property

Conduct routine preventative patrols on Edmonton Transit property to ensure security and safety of patrons, promptly report any potential or actual risks or losses

Address customer service needs by providing transit information (fares, stop locations, etc.), responding to injury reports within transit facilities, and assisting passengers requiring support

Foster and maintain respectful relationships with Edmonton's diverse communities, acting as a positive ambassador for the City of Edmonton Exercise discretionary law enforcement powers as granted under federal and provincial legislation and municipal bylaws

Collaborate with security professionals, other Peace Officer groups, and the Edmonton Police Service to enhance safety and security within the Edmonton Transit System Support Transit Operations with safe and efficient fare enforcement

Collect information and evidence to support court proceedings, insurance claims, and Security and Risk Management activities. Provide testimony or evidence in court when necessary

Prepare comprehensive letters and reports, develop and implement special events, and conduct media interviews and public presentations

Qualifications:

Grade 12 and Completion of a recognized diploma in police studies, security, criminology, sociology, or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of strong customer service or diverse law enforcement experienceORGrade 12 and a minimum of 5 years enforcement experience in a recognized law enforcement environmentORMust have been a serving Police Officer in Canada within the past 5 years, or employed as a Peace Officer level I within Alberta for at least 2 years

Assets:

Certification in effective communication programs such as verbal judo, tactical communications or strategic de-escalation program

Experience working or volunteering in your community or with racialized people and other equity seeking groups

Experience working with Indigenous communities

Knowledge or training in harm reduction, anti-racism, Indigenous awareness and GBA+Knowledge of another language

Skills required for success:

Skilled in exercising tact, sound judgment and firmness in dealing with difficult situations while under pressure

Knowledge and awareness of the Edmonton Transit System Demonstrated ability to communicate inclusively and respectfully with diverse community members

Ability to use current computer software such as Google Suite, Posse, and CADKnows relevant City of Edmonton bylaws, provincial/federal acts, and powers of arrest under the Criminal Code of Canada Proficient in Peace Officer use of force principles in Alberta, defensive tactics, and vehicle/equipment operation

Meets ongoing physical requirements (walking, running, lifting, twisting) for safe operational performance

Possesses strong verbal and written skills to produce concise investigative reports and present complex information clearly

Applies creative, innovative, and analytical thinking to solve problems, resolve conflicts, and recommend viable solutions

Works effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within cross-functional teams

Demonstrates high integrity, handles sensitive and confidential information appropriately, and represents the City respectfully
