Attendant; Operating Room

Position: Attendant (Operating Room)
Reporting to the Perioperative Unit Manager, the Service Attendant supports the nursing staff in the surgical suite by performing a blend of general support services roles including stocking, restocking, cleaning, portering patients, and helping with the overall maintenance of a clean and safe environment. The Misericordia Community Hospital Operating Room is a busy, fast-paced environment consisting of 10 operating room theaters.

The Service Attendant must be able to maneuver stretchers and other OR equipment. The Service Attendant is required to help lift and transfer patients; therefore, the successful candidate must be able to bend, stoop and reach above the shoulder. This position also involves exposure to chemicals and body fluids when cleaning Operating Room theaters.

Description:

The Attendant supports the department by performing the tasks of stocking, restocking, cleaning, and portering of equipment, supplies, and patients. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 2111 Collective Agreement.

Completion of Grade 10 required.

Required Qualifications
Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level

C) required. Previous experience in a patient care setting with direct patient contact is required. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively required. Demonstrated ability to maintain interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers and other hospital personnel required. Must be able to follow instructions, work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. Must be able to meet the job demand analysis requirements required.

Ability to stand and walk for complete shift required.

Preferred Qualifications
Recent Operating Room Service Attendant experience. Previous patient portering experience is preferred. Minimum two years related experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred. High School diploma or recognized equivalent preferred. Knowledge and application of infection control principles and basic aseptic technique preferred.
