Cancer Care Alberta is currently searching for an Associate Manager (AM) to join our fast-paced Surgical Services (SS) team at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) in Edmonton. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, Surgical/Procedural Services, the AMSS ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, patient-centred surgical care within a highly specialized oncology environment.

This influential frontline leadership role provides day-to-day operational oversight of the Operating Room, coordinating surgical flow, optimizing resources, and supporting a high-performing interdisciplinary team committed to exceptional cancer care. The AMSS serves as a visible clinical leader, coaching and mentoring staff, fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture, and leading real-time problem-solving in a dynamic surgical setting. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesia, PACU, and support services, you will champion quality improvement, patient safety, operational excellence, and innovation while helping shape the future of surgical oncology services.

Description:

The Associate Manager, Surgical Services (AMSS) is responsible for the operational leadership and coordination of perioperative services at the Cross Cancer Institute, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centred surgical care. Key accountabilities span Operational Leadership & OR Coordination, Clinical Supervision & Frontline Leadership, Human Resource & Workforce Management, Quality Improvement, Patient Safety & Change Management, and Stakeholder Collaboration & Program Integration.

The position provides direct day-to-day operational leadership and supervision to frontline nursing and interdisciplinary staff through work assignment, staffing coordination, clinical support, performance coaching, and real-time operational decision-making. The Associate Manager is accountable for overseeing daily surgical operations, optimizing patient flow and resource utilization, supporting workforce planning and staff development, advancing quality and patient safety initiatives, and fostering effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and support services.

The role monitors operational performance, addresses emerging clinical and operational issues, supports the implementation of organizational priorities and practice changes, and ensures services are delivered in accordance with professional, regulatory, and organizational standards. The position contributes to Cancer Care Alberta's strategic priorities by supporting timely access to care, integrated service delivery, workforce sustainability, continuous improvement, and high-quality outcomes for patients and families across the cancer care continuum.
