The Cross Cancer Institute is one of 2 tertiary cancer centres in Alberta providing comprehensive cancer care services. The Cross Cancer Institute Pharmacy is an integral component to the facility. The Pharmacy Assistant, under the direction of the Pharmacy Operations Manager and practicing within their full scope, will assist with medication repackaging, distribution, delivery, and inventory management. Daily tasks include selecting and labeling medications, replenishing patient specific carts and ward stock, and performing receiving and barcoding duties.
You’ll use automated and computerized systems to support accuracy and efficiency. Strong verbal and written English communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality and teamwork are essential. You will also mentor and train other Pharmacy Assistants, new staff, and students. The ideal candidate demonstrates accuracy, professionalism, reliability, and the ability to succeed in a dynamic and continually evolving environment.
You must be able to follow instructions, work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing workflows and technologies. Physical demands include visual acuity, keyboarding, heavy lifting and grip strength, twisting, crouching, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and extended periods of standing and walking. This role also involves handling hazardous medications with appropriate PPE.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a hospital pharmacy or similar setting is considered an asset, with the following:
Willow Pharmacy (Epic), Delivering medication, Pyxis, Barcoding medications, familiarity with pharmaceutical or medical terminology.
