About the RBC Borealis ML Research Internship Program

Our focus is on contributing to an AI ecosystem of the future — a diverse and inclusive community whose work truly improves people’s lives. RBC Borealis typically offers research internships across all its labs in Canada.

At this time, our internship program is running in a hybrid work environment. Interns support research on a wide variety of theoretical and applied machine learning projects.

RBC Borealis has partnered with Mitacs to offer internships in a collaborative setting between our labs and a Canadian university. This program requires that both applicants and their academic advisors submit a proposal to Mitacs for peer review. As such, it is recommended that applicants initiate this process with RBC Borealis at least 6 months before the intended internship start date.

Qualifications
  • Ability to implement state-of-the-art machine learning techniques
  • High motivation to solve challenging research problems
  • Passion for data, algorithms, and statistics
  • Previous publications at a top-tier AI conference
  • Experience with writing modular, robust, scalable software in Python
  • Familiarity with the Unix command line and bash scripting
  • Proficiency with deep learning packages, such as Tensorflow, Keras, and Py Torch
  • A deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and/or statistical modeling
  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering or another mathematically related field (e.g., Physics, Math, Statistics, etc.)
