Position: Utility (Labourer) Person

Overview

:

The Utility (Labourer) Person will take direction with positive communication and cooperation and are responsible for completing duties and assigned tasks. These positions provide support to production units, environmental activities to improve unit operations, process safety and environmental performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate industrial mobile equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, JLGs, scissor lifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment in active production and maintenance areas.
  • Perform a wide range of general labour and material-handling duties across the site, including loading, unloading, staging, and transporting raw materials, finished product, tools, and equipment.
  • Support plant operations and maintenance activities, including cleaning, debris removal, equipment preparation, parts handling, and assisting during shutdowns, startups, and equipment change-outs.
  • Perform rigging and hoisting when required, including proper inspection, selection, and use of slings, chains, hooks, and lifting devices to move heavy or awkward loads safely.
  • Carry out plant lubrication, oil sampling, draining, filling, and basic preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with plant procedures and safety standards.
  • Perform housekeeping, spill response, and environmental control activities to ensure the facility remains safe, clean, and compliant with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, working at heights, and working in confined spaces while wearing required PPE.
  • Follow all safe-work practices, including lock-out/tag-out, confined space, hot work, and job hazard analysis procedures.
  • Identify and report hazards, near misses, and equipment issues, and actively participate in improving plant safety and reliability.
  • Leadership

  • Lead by example by consistently following site rules, PPE requirements, and safe-work practices.
  • Demonstrated visible, hands-on leadership on the shop floor by setting the standard for safety, work ethic, and procedural compliance.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with crew members, the Team Captain, and supervision to support efficient and safe operations.
  • Serve as a positive role model and informal mentor, supporting less-experienced employees and promoting teamwork and skill development.
  • Respond proactively to operational, safety, and staffing needs, helping ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Stewardship

  • Promote and reinforce a culture of safety, quality, and reliability in all work activities.
  • Actively participate in site stewardship programs, including SIPs, toolbox meetings, job hazard analyses, and required training
  • Take ownership of the condition of work areas, tools, and equipment, ensuring issues are identified and addressed.
  • Look out for coworkers, contractors, and visitors, intervening when unsafe or non-compliant behaviours are observed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce risk, improve efficiency, and strengthen overall plant performance.
  • Qualifications:

  • Maintaining high standard of safety consciousness, being an advocate for the safety of self and others
  • High School Diploma or recognized equivalent (GED).
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operating license
  • Forklift Truck experience is preferred
  • Maintaining a high level of housekeeping standards
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment
  • Experience with SAP or similar CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Available to work overtime when required.
