Job DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled Machinist (Journeyman or Apprentice) to join our manufacturing team in Edmonton, Canada. In this role, you will operate and maintain precision machinery to produce high-quality components according to detailed specifications. - Operate CNC and manual machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, and related equipment) to manufacture precision components
- Read and interpret technical blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate production
- Measure and inspect finished parts using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify conformance to tolerance standards
- Set up machines, select appropriate cutting tools, and adjust speeds and feeds to optimize production efficiency
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with all safety protocols and regulations
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform routine maintenance to minimize downtime
- Document production activities, material usage, and quality control results accurately
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and quality standards
- Continuously improve machining processes and suggest enhancements to workflow and efficiency
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Prepare samples according to CSA, ASTM and ASME standards & customer requirements.
- Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.
- Responsible for completion of task safety evaluations, near miss and hazard reporting as required.
- Education:
a certified journeyperson, holding a valid recognized credential - Experience :
Beginner - < 2 years experience - Valid Journeyman Machinist certification (for Journeyman level) or active apprenticeship registration with Alberta (for Apprentice level)
- Proficiency in operating CNC and manual machine tools
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and engineering drawings
- Competency with precision measurement tools and quality control instruments
- Knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, and material properties
- Familiarity with CAD software and digital machining programs (preferred)
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing work that meets strict tolerance standards
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work safely and follow all workplace safety regulations and procedures
- Problem-solving skills and analytical mindset to troubleshoot technical issues
