Donation Centre Associate and Driver
Overview
The Donation Centre Associate and Driver will work with team members and volunteers to receive incoming clothing and household items, ensure that they are in suitable condition, and sort the items. The position will also pack and deliver orders to the Thrift Store or to The Mustard Seed’s Community Impact Centres. As this position interacts directly with donors and volunteers, the Associate and Driver is responsible for providing a positive experience for all who visit The Mustard Seed.

Responsibilities
Receive incoming donations, screen and sort items according to quality standards and with reference to program & Thrift Store needs
Pack orders and deliver to the Thrift Store and Community Impact Centres, and shelters
Pick up items from partnering businesses and organizations
Communicate the story of The Mustard Seed’s ministry and develop rapport, through intentional interactions with volunteers and donors
Guide individual volunteers and volunteer groups with sorting and packing donations along with other duties
Maintain accurate reporting of donations, inventory, and outgoing items
Contribute and execute on creative ideas to improve donor relations, goods stewardship, and process efficiency
Provide occasional coverage at The Thrift Store (training will be provided)
Maintain cleanliness of the warehouse and its perimeter to ensure a safe workplace
Participate in all staff training (e.g., First Aid, Safe TALK, NVCI) and attend meetings with supervisor
Other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications
Experience driving a transit van
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially data entry is an asset
Excellent organizational skills and ability to support front‑line programs
Knowledge of designer labels, collectibles, and seasonal trends is an asset
Strong communication, customer service, problem‑solving, and conflict resolution skills
Strong interpersonal skills, with frequent engagement with volunteers and colleagues across departments
A self‑starter who can work in a cross‑functional team and direct volunteer groups, including those with diverse needs
Experience working in a volunteer‑based organization is considered an asset
Passionate about participating in a Christian organization focused on supporting people living in poverty
Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract
Working Conditions
Signing an agreement respecting The Mustard Seed’s Statement of Faith is required
Frequent manual labor (up to 50 lbs) with long periods of standing and walking, indoors and outdoors of the warehouse
Clients may experience difficulties or impairment, potentially resulting in threatening, discriminatory, or aggressive behavior; training on how to respond is provided
Requires moderate mental effort to maintain organization and efficiency in a fast‑paced environment
Additional Requirements
Employment Background Check required for all positions
Agreement to respect The Mustard Seed’s Employment Values during employment
Legal authorization to work in Canada on a full‑time basis
Use of a company vehicle; candidate must maintain valid driver’s licence and consent to a driver’s abstract request
