The Patient Flow Coordinator (PFC) is a centralized zone role in direct collaboration with demand capacity services 24/7. As an IOC PFC, you will collaborate with EMS Supervisors to promote optimal patient flow by effectively managing patient transport and admission via EMS and RAAPID North, providing oversight to system flow and capacity in real‑time. The role monitors capacity and flow, remediates bottlenecks, assigns destinations based on patient need, and leads virtual zone demand capacity calls.
You will also initiate zone escalation protocols (EZ‑STEP) when significant bottlenecks arise and serve as a point of contact for Executive Leadership on‑call during working hours. The position is for experienced RNs with diverse clinical experience, strong leadership roles, and demonstrated leadership strengths.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will handle staff assignments, manage patient flow, and act as a role model, clinical resource, and advocate for nursing staff. You will provide frontline nursing care as required, take a leadership role in promoting quality patient care, and implement operational priorities. Your knowledge and skills will enable you to provide solutions for complex health care issues at all levels, collaborate with interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers, and ensure safe, quality, patient‑ and family‑centered care that reflects AHS’s shared vision and values.
Required Qualifications- Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
- Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP).
- 3–5 years related acute care and continuum of care experience.
- Charge or leadership experience and in‑scope leadership experience.
- Excellent organization skills and multi‑tasking.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
- Experience in bed management/capacity management.
