We’re seeking Nurse Practitioners (NPs) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital emergency department and for in‑person locum (travel) opportunities in emergency departments across Alberta. Take the next step in your NP career and be at the forefront of emergency care service delivery in Alberta!

Be part of a vital initiative integrating NPs into the busy tertiary emergency department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) is one of the busiest emergency departments in Western Canada. Centrally located in Edmonton’s downtown core, the RAH serves a diverse population with complex medical and psychosocial needs. The RAH ED has a strong sense of team through a culture of support.

We are seeking Nurse Practitioners who have well‑developed clinical judgement and assessment skills that can adapt to rapidly changing clinical priorities. Experience in emergency and acute care are foundational to this role. The ideal candidate is resilient, forward‑thinking and innovative, as they will be required to practice autonomously in a clinically challenging practice environment. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and interprofessional collaboration skills to ensure a safe, seamless coordination to care delivery.

Travel Locum
Play a key role providing temporary coverage within an emergency department as a full‑scope NP. In‑person locum (travel) opportunities are available across various emergency departments within Alberta for NPs!

Prior experience in acute care and emergency care is essential, as you will play a crucial role in addressing the healthcare needs of Albertans. Coverage of rural emergencies frequently includes coverage of medical inpatient units and affiliated long‑term care beds. On‑call peer support is available whenever you need it. We are seeking NPs who possess strong leadership skills and excel in interprofessional collaboration ensuring safe, seamless coordination approach to care delivery.

This position offers additional incentives, including: a premium payment ($10‑$25) per hour for hours worked, reimbursement for travel costs, a per diem allowance, meal allowance and accommodation provided by AHS.

Please note:

Graduate Nurse Practitioners do not qualify for locum opportunities.

Description
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients.

Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems.

Required Qualifications

Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master’s degree.

Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure.

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP).

Evidence to practice both independently and collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification (ENP) or equivalent.

Emergency Medicine Education and skills development courses.

Emergency NP experience.

Internal Medicine NP experience.

Practices trauma‑informed, patient centered care approach.

Current ACLS and PALS certification.

Familiarity with Connect Care is beneficial.
