Your Opportunity
The role of an occupational health nurse is quite diverse. It involves patient care as well as extensive administrative responsibilities. The position will interpret client needs, assess requirements and identify solutions to nonstandard issues and requests, counsel and educate clients on health and wellness in the workplace, and provide input into policy and process development. The position works to ensure Health Shared Services values, goals and principles are implemented and integrated in the delivery of services to client groups.

Responsibilities

Provide clinical support, advice, direction, and input into the needs of fellow staff and managers in relation to health promotion, safety and hygiene, and disease/injury prevention programs.

Act as healthcare provider for AHS staff and representatives.

Ensure highly sensitive confidential health information of fellow staff and AHS representatives is protected.

Assist in the implementation of program and policy strategies to address workplace health and safety hazards.

Promote WHS programs and strategic priorities.

Deliver programs and services to staff and line managers to meet their needs, including Occupational Immunizations.

Conduct Occupational Health Assessments and monitor needle stick and blood/body fluid exposure (BBFE) follow‑up.

Follow-up and investigate communicable disease exposure (CDE).

Manage WCB cases.

Raise awareness of Employee/Family Assistance Program.

Implement Noise Management Program.

Perform hazard assessment and control.

Investigate skin integrity/hand health issues.

Conduct respiratory fit testing.

Perform ergonomic review and other consultation/duties as required.

Measure and monitor outcomes of current WHS programs and new initiatives.

Consult with and refer to appropriate stakeholders and specialists (e.g., IPC, Public Health).

Description
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well‑being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family‑centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

PLEASE NOTE:

Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification.

If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses:

CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1‑4).

NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Additional

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a nursing diploma and/or bachelor's degree with RN designation.

Active CRNA permit.

Occupational Health Nursing Post Diploma/Degree Certificate.

Audiometric Technician Training.

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Occupational Health Nursing.

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (CPR/BCLS‑HCP).

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience in Occupational Health Nursing in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity.

Preference may be given for health care experience and for candidates Certified in the Occupational Health Nursing Canada (COHN(C)) through the Canadian Nurses Association’s (CNA).

Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
