The College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) is a non‑profit regulatory organization. The CLHA exists to protect Alberta healthcare users. Our first responsibility is to the public. Employment Term

This is a full‑time permanent position. The successful candidate will be able to meet the operational requirements of the position, including travel throughout Alberta approximately every 8–12 weeks to facilitate program reviews, (often involving driving and overnight stays), and regular weekly attendance at the Edmonton office as part of the organization’s work schedule policy. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies.

The Role

The Practical Nurse Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the CLHA’s practical nurse education program approval process. As the primary point of contact for post‑secondary institutions (PSIs), the Practical Nurse Education Coordinator facilitates the reviews of new and established practical nurse education programs as well as overseeing the ongoing monitoring and annual evaluation of approved practical nurse programs in the province.

The Practical Nurse Education Coordinator is responsible for appointing program review teams, including a designated team lead, effectively facilitating the process and ensuring clear communication on the evaluation process, guidelines, required timelines, and documentation.

To ensure a smooth and effective process, the Practical Nurse Education Coordinator advises PSIs regarding education standards and any changes to them or other changes that may impact practical nurse programs and provides support on education policies, the evaluation framework, and documentation reporting. This position continuously assesses current processes, policies, and documentation for improvements and quality control, bringing suggestions forward for discussion and consideration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administration of Program Review Process
    :
    Coordinate and oversee the approval, monitoring, and evaluation of practical nurse education programs to ensure reviews are completed consistently, transparently, and in accordance with CLHA standards and established processes. Establish program review schedules, coordinate and support review teams, oversee review reports and follow‑up submissions, and ensure timelines and reporting requirements are met.
  • Education Standards, Quality Improvement, and Partner Engagement
    :
    Maintain awareness of emerging healthcare, education, legislative, and regulatory trends affecting practical nurse education and contribute to the ongoing improvement of education standards, policies, review processes, and tools. Build collaborative relationships with PSIs, government, employers, and other partners, providing guidance and subject matter expertise on practical nurse education and program review requirements. Establish measures to evaluate review activities, identify opportunities for improvement, and support consistent and defensible outcomes.
  • Departmental Operations and Leadership Support
    :
    Support the Director in departmental planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and the delivery of the Education Department work plan. Provide subject matter expertise to CLHA leadership, advisory committees, and internal departments on matters related to practical nurse education. Orient and support program review team members and the Education Standards Advisory Committee (ESAC), contribute to cross‑departmental initiatives, and ensure education activities remain aligned with CLHA's strategic priorities and public protection mandate.
