We are seeking a compassionate, leadership-minded
Registered Nurse (RN) to join our geriatric care team. In this role, you will deliver exceptional resident-centered care while guiding an interdisciplinary team of LPNs and Health Care Aides (HCAs).

Educational Requirements:

  • Completion of a Registered Nurse degree or Diploma from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current RN license with the CARNA.
  • Geriatric nursing experience helpful.

Position Requirements:

  • Responsible to adhering to all Standards of Nursing Practice and to the Health Professions Act of Alberta
  • Genuinely interested in caring for older adults and working in the geriatric nursing environment.
  • Must possess organization and leadership skills that demonstrate the ability to plan, direct, supervise, and assist with resident care activities and employee responsibilities.
  • Ability to effectively observe and document resident's behavior (i.e., changes in physical and emotional conditions).
  • Ability to model constructive work behavior for LPN/HCA’s and other interdisciplinary members.
  • Ability to discipline and re-direct improper work habits.
  • Patient and tactful in relating to residents, family members, volunteers, visitors, physicians and the general public. Willingness to accept supervision.
  • Commitment to confidentiality in respect to resident status and medical records.
  • Ability to work well with co-workers, demonstrate integrity and express a sense of humor.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to read and write English in order to follow and give oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to complete required paperwork and filing with high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to observe resident's behavior and communicate observations in a professional and intelligent manner.
  • Physically capable of turning, stooping, bending, stretching, moving equipment and performing other related tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. or the equivalent of one half of an adult (as in a two man transfer).
  • Must be able to explain clearly to potential residents, families and employees the policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Internet, Email and MDS an asset
  • After receiving the appropriate training, must be able to operate standard business equipment such as computers, copiers, fax machines and telephones.

Position Responsibilities: Including, but not limited to the following;

  • Plan, direct, and assist with resident care activities, (resident care plan).
  • Direct and manage LPN/HCA’s.
  • Foster inter-shift and inter-departmental communications.
  • Transcribe and implement physician orders.
  • Administer medications as outlined in the Medication Administration policy and procedure.
  • Perform all required treatments.
  • Exercise judgment and accept responsibility for keeping attending physician informed of pertinent changes in condition of the resident.
  • Maintain resident's medical record.
  • Contribute to unit operation in respect to orderliness, cleanliness, supplies and equipment.
  • Spend adequate time on the floor observing and managing the work behavior of subordinates. Assist in progressive discipline and document work behavior. Participate in encouraging and developing a professional attitude for self and co-workers.
  • Promote a positive image with both internal public, (residents, staff, physicians, consultants, volunteers), and external public, (family members, community groups and organizations, public at large).
  • Participate in evaluating the unit's operation. Promote, support, and enforce resident care policies and employee personnel policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties, as requested by supervisor(s), with a positive attitude.
