Be a part of a meaningful and innovative initiative aimed at providing high quality geriatric care in the tertiary emergency department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) in Edmonton, Alberta. The Geriatric Emergency Management NP (GEM-NP), will provide specialized care to emergency patients with geriatric syndromes and frailty with moderate acuity and high complexity needs. As part of a physician-led team, the NP will conduct geriatric assessments, provide interventions, and develop care plans.

The NP will collaborate extensively with the interdisciplinary team, community resources and patient caregivers to support discharges, and they will be responsible for following up patient status in the community. We are seeking Nurse Practitioners who have geriatric expertise that can adapt to the dynamic emergency environment. Experience in geriatric care is foundational to this role. The ideal candidate is resilient, forward-thinking and innovative, as they will be required to practice autonomously in a clinically challenging practice environment.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and interprofessional collaboration skills to ensure safe, seamless coordination of care delivery. Centrally located in Edmonton’s downtown core, the RAH has one of the busiest emergency departments in Western Canada, serving a diverse population with complex medical and psychosocial needs. Description

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems.

Required Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree.
  • Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
